Breath, Balance, and Business

Embracing Nature in the Everyday

Thought I'd share how I started off my day. I've skipped quite a few morning walks lately, so terribly needed to get out. I went for a hike first, then on the way back, saw a trampoline. I couldn't resist, especially as it sat atop a hill with a great view. (You'll see me wave hello to horses who stopped grazing to watch :)

I usually take photographs on my walks. Today, I just wanted to walk, enjoy the crisp breeze, and falling leaves. On my walk, I recovered my breath. On the trampoline, I let things go trading recent disappointments for future possibilities, and unrealistic expectations for ones tempered, but no less fabulous. Bonus: staying present freed up valuable mental and creative space.

While bouncing, I noticed the road in front of me produced a fork. To the left, wide open space, pasture, and trails for both animals and people. To the right, a built environment of Scandinavian-inspired homes, winding roads, and freshly paved sidewalks. Due to masterful design, both co-exist harmoniously in the same space; neither diminishing nor distracting from the ambience of the other, nor the peacefulness atop the hill from which I bounced at sunrise.

I couldn't help wonder why most of us aren't in a practice of doing the same—incorporating nature as a critical component of our work and entrepreneurial journeys—utilizing its many benefits to not only enhance workflows and creativity, but produce better outcomes, solutions, and overall experiences for our clients and us.

Like the view before me, creativity need not be a decision of 'which' road to take, but uniquely crafting our own, how we experience the spaces we encounter, and what we draw from those ventures that inadvertently spill over elsewhere—solutions you never knew were within (and their impact), an idea that becomes the seed of something great for the future, or simply gratitude for a moment to breathe that nourishes your spirit, and a snapshot to remind you of it.
